Out & About: Downtown Austin

It was a beautiful day in Austin today, so my friend Justin and I decided to go out and about with our cameras and find things to take pictures of. Since we weren't interested in the ACL (Austin City Limits) festival, and most of those in Austin were, downtown wasn't crazy busy. We started out on the Congress Ave. bridge where I got a nice shot of Lady Bird Lake.

We then headed up toward the Texas State Capital building. On the way we heard some live music at one of the local bars - I should have gotten his info to check out more of his music, he was very good.

I'd been in Austin for a number of years, and hadn't gotten around to visiting the Capital area to walk around. It's quite a nice area, and it was open to the public.

I was amazed at how the Texas Star was on just about everything... including the door hinges on the front door.

The inside of the dome was quite something to see.

Here are a few other shots from around the building and grounds:

We also couldn't resist hitting up just a few of the many famous murals here in town.

It was fun to walk around and be "tourists" for a day, even though we both have lived here for a number of years. I am looking forward to doing things like this again, since there's quite a lot to see and do here.
