After 1 Week With The New 2017 Ford Explorer Sport

After 1 Week With The New 2017 Ford Explorer Sport

I’ve had my 2017 Ford Explorer Sport for a week now, and have really been enjoying it. I knew I wanted to do a YouTube video for it, but I didn’t want to do one of those typical “here’s the air conditioning, here’s the radio, it has a gazillion speakers, listen to how good it sounds (since you can really tell over a YouTube video!)”

I decided to make a video highlighting some of the features that I enjoy most, and that I think are really well thought out. I also pointed out a few observations of things I think could be better, but that aren’t that big of a deal because, as a whole, this really is a fantastic package.

One Of My Favorite Things About Cruising

One Of My Favorite Things About Cruising

It’s no secret that I love taking cruises; this year, I’ll have taken 3 and have 3 on tap for next year as well.  I put together this little video which is a nice peaceful indication of one of my many favorite things about cruising: The view, and the relaxing ambience of spending time on my balcony while out at sea.

The only sound heard is the wind blowing, and the water rushing by below against the hull of the ship. It’s truly serene.

Check out this video, but be sure to wear a nice set of headphones and enjoy in a darkened quiet room. If you’re like me, it’ll take you there…

I Flew A Plane For The First Time

I Flew A Plane For The First Time

Yes, you read that correctly. I didn’t just fly in the plane, I flew the plane!

I’ve always enjoyed playing flight simulator games, and have done so since the early days of the first versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 95! Fast forward to today, and I’ve been a big fan of a simulator called X-Plane on my Mac. It’s so realistic, the company who makes it offers a professional version or use in actual pilot training.

One of my friends from work, who also shares an interest in flying, suggested I do a “discovery flight” which is exactly as its name implies: a way to “discover” if flying is something you want to get involved with. So, yesterday I did just that.

It was incredible.

I put a video together for my YouTube channel talking about the experience, which I’d love for you to check out below:

I also uploaded a full unedited version on my YouTube channel  if you’d like to experience the entire journey for yourself. The audio isn’t great, because I didn’t have a way to record the onboard audio at the time, and I had only one camera feed. Still, you can get a feel for what it was like!

I wanted send a quick shout out and thanks to my friend Nate for the suggestion to do this in the first place, and for taking some great pictures while I was flying:

I wanted to send a special thank you to Mike and the gang at Above & Beyond Aviation, for giving an incredible and unforgettable experience! Since they also offer flight training, I know where I’m going if I decide to pursue my pilot’s license.

If you have any interest in aviation, be sure to sign up for a discovery flight at your local airport! It’s definitely a great experience, and one I highly recommend!

Keep It Or Lose It: Update

Keep It Or Lose It: Update

Earlier, I posted about wearing some facial hair.  I’ve never been one to wear a beard/mustache/goatee/etc. I’d tried it once before, by choice. This time around, I had to wear it because a doctor told me I temporarily wasn’t allowed to shave the area.  However, I was given a time frame of 2 weeks in which I couldn’t shave. Tonight is the 13th day, and as the title of the below video states… that was 13 days too many to have facial hair!

So, I present…the answer to the earlier blog post… Clearly, I didn’t keep it!  Watch the video for more!

May 30 Vlog With Brian

May 30 Vlog With Brian

I’d just picked up a GoPro Hero 5 Session and decided to take it out and film some stuff with a good friend of mine. The drone also makes an appearance in this video as well. Enjoy!

A Handy Way to Rack Up United Miles

A Handy Way to Rack Up United Miles

Despite United having not had some great press lately, they do have one of the best loyalty programs out there. What sets them apart from many, I believe, is how easy it is to earn miles which you can put toward future travel. I did a video some time ago about an app you can download that makes it quite easy to rack up some miles. Check it out!

Real Drums Are Better Than Electronic Drums

Real Drums Are Better Than Electronic Drums

It’s been too long since I’ve played an acoustic drum set. From my days in high school in the percussion ensemble, to the shows I played in the pit for, and the gigs out in New York with my band, I miss hitting things and making lots of noise.

I attribute my hiatus from drumming on real drums to living in various apartments where, understandably, making loud noises with drums wouldn’t be looked upon too favorably by the neighbors. Thankfully, I’ve had an electronic drum set to get me by in the last few years. It’s not the same, but ’tis better than nothing.

I found a rehearsal studio here in town that offers a drummer’s practice room; a small space which drummers can rent out for practice. It’s even “drummer budget friendly” also – $15 gets me two hours time – perfect!

I went down the other day and had a lot of fun, and wanted to do it again; this time, I brought some recording gear with me and put together a little video. It’s not perfect by any means, but it sure did feel good to get back behind the real drums for a change. Perhaps it’s some motivation to find a band to play with now!

In Honor of Star Wars Day

In Honor of Star Wars Day

It’s May 4th, and in honor of all the Star Wars-themed memes of the internet, I proudly share one of the first videos I posted  to YouTube some time ago. In this video I “use the force” to…well…have a look.  🙂
